It could be his army training, his boyhood adventures exploring Wolfpine Lake, or his life-long fasciation with maps, but Taggart has always loved compasses. He has collected a remarkable number over the years, which he keeps in an old glass watchmakers case in the trophy room of the lodge. But this is the compass he keeps in his pocket.
The Silva Lensatic 360 is a classic design traditionally used in the military for its precisely accurate bearings. It is liquid-filled with 2° increments, a top cover with sighting slit, and a magnifying lens in sighting arm for easy dial readings. The bezel rotates with detent so you can change a reference without looking. There are luminous markings at 45° on the glass plate and it has a sturdy powder-coated aluminum housing. We always keep a supply of these in the dry goods shop at Burnt Point Lodge because the Silva Lensatic is the toughest, most reliable, and easiest to use compass we know.
